LIFE IN A POST COVID WORLD.
It is like the title of a dystopian film or novel. It does NOT sound like real life. Yet, we are living it. Everyday, we are living life in a post-COVID world. And it continues to change things in way that were once unimaginable. Not only are so many people becoming severely ill and, in some cases succumbing to this disease, but it has also changed the way we live. I a in introvert, so the lack of larger social gatherings is typically my preference anyway. Still, humans are social beings and introverts enjoy time with family and their core set of friends. And I miss my family and friends immensely. It is also wreaking havoc on the extroverts in this world and on our economy. It is causing declines in mental health, myself included. Having struggled with generalized anxiety disorder and OCD prior to this mess, my anxiety has only gotten worse. My OCS has reached a point where I question whether I will ever be able to interact with people without a mask, even after we have gotten a handle on the virus and a vaccine.
In terms of the bakery, we have had to close our doors intermittently and temporarily since March for a multitude of reasons, one of which included an almond flour shortage. Most recently, house damage, after being hit by the unforgettable and most inconvenient of hurricanes, caused us to slow down baking for a bit. But, by the grace of God, our perseverance, and our amazing customer base, Ashley and I have been able to bounce back. We have been relentless in achieving our goals for this bakery and I am happy to announce that WE ARE BACK. My only advice for getting through these difficult times is repeating a mantra to yourselves that I recently read in a book (Untamed, Glennon Doyle): WE CAN DO HARD THINGS. Each one of us has been affected by COVID in different ways, but we must all work together to overcome this enormous obstacle that has intercepted our lives. Together, we will succeed.
